"He wept. That's grace showing up again. He didn't point his finger at the city and scream his prediction with the harsh rhetoric of a judgmental preacher. He didn't walk up and down the interstate with a cardboard sign, declaring God's coming wrath. His justice was delivered through his tears. He absolutely loved these people, even as they denied him."
- "Dirty God: Jesus in the Trenches" by Johnnie Moore.
Let that sink in for a moment...
His justice was delivered through his tears.
Matthew 5:5 of the King James Bible states "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth". Christ calls us to love the world with a spirit of submission, meekness, and a humble heart. That is such a hard pill for some individuals to swallow. As a woman in the modern world I am fully aware of that. We all feel compelled to cry out in dominance. Any sign of submission is a sign of weakness.
Oh how wrong we are!
Let your stubborn heart rest for a moment. Imagine loving with that type of heart. Christ wept for his enemies. For the individuals who would put him to death. He wept for them. When was the last time you cared for someone so deeply that you were simply broken for them? That is such a radical love. Think of how dramatically the world would change if we could all learn to weep for our enemies instead of bash them with hatred.
Food for thought...
